Versus Studio: Synthesizers

The Basics on Synthesizers |
Synthesizers are instruments that can reproduce a facsimile of a sound. It will not sound exactly like the instrument it is reproducing but, most of the sound qualities of that instrument can be duplicated by a synthesizer. They have been around for quite sometime and are now common place in the music industry. If you utilize computerized sound, that is a synthesized sound that has been incorporated into what ever program you are using. Synthesizers are excellent and can be used to enhance any type of musical performance. Today you can sample a sound from a real instrument and have that sound reproduced by a synthesizer. Even with all of its qualities it still lacks in the tonal and rich qualities that real instruments provide. Saying that, they also give some unique qualities to the sound that is being reproduced. I have used many synthesizers and many real instruments. I would chose the real over the synthesized. Music has grown so much that most people don’t know the difference between hearing real drums verses synthesized drums or real strings verses synthesized strings. The next time you are listening to your favorite song try to pick out the synthesized sounds from the real sounds. Today with the excellent technology you would have to be trained to do it. Some of your favorite music incorporates or is built on synthesized sounds. We are a long way from Big bands or any band that uses all natural instruments for their sound. There are a number of true musicians who would refuse the idea of incorporating synthesizers into there music for the reason of pureness. I think they have a point and a right to that point of creation. Synthesizers are not bad. They are just different when it comes to musical production. |
